Dennis N. Adamy, 52, of Hamilton, NY, passed away on August 21, 2003, after a prolonged battle with cancer. A Hannibal native, Dennis graduated from Hannibal High School, SUNY Oswego, and received an M.S.W. from West Virginia University. While studying at West Virginia he met and married Nancy Rendick. In 1976 their son John was born. Dennis was the Director of Social Work Services at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton for 17 years, and later began a contracting business - Adamy and Son - with his son John. Dennis was an active member of the Hamilton community and a friend to many. He is remembered by friends and family as a compassionate, resourceful man with a wry sense of humor, and wide-ranging interests. He was a fan of Hamilton High School and Colgate University hockey, and occasionally announced Colgate games. He started the "Learn to Skate" program in the village, which continues to this day. Surviving are: his son John of Hamilton; his parents Ernest and Betty Adamy of Hannibal, NY; three sisters and two brothers, Kathleen Wildrick of Central Square, Nancy Gordon of Hannibal, Marcia Jenkins of GA, Laurence Adamy of Pasadena, CA, and Philip Adamy of Hannibal. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews who say that "he is the coolest uncle ever". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dennis Adamy Scholarship Fund, which Dennis helped to establish. The scholarship will benefit a graduating Hamilton High School hockey player. Contributions may be made to the Dennis Adamy Scholarship Fund in care of Darcie Leach, 31 West Pleasant Street, Hamilton, NY 13346. Dennis donated his body to Upstate Medical University for medical research. Memorial services and shared remembrances are planned for the following dates and locations: Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Hannibal Community Church, Church St., Hannibal, NY Sunday, August 24, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at the Seven Oaks Clubhouse, 2 East Lake Road, Hamilton, NY.
