Nolan Troy Akins, 88, son of Guy Z. and Melva Akins, was born Feb. 26, 1913, at Elk Creek. He died Oct. 11, 2001, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston following a lengthy illness.
The Akins family moved to Houston in 1919. Mr. Akins graduated from Houston High School in 1931 and attended Teachers College in Springfield (now Southwest Missouri State University) for three and a half years where he majored in music. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Colleen Tengler of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Duard and Guy Akins of Springfield; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 15 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. L.J. Lowe and the Rev. Jim Norris officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
