Elwin Obe Altman, age 70, son of Manuel and Helen Vestal Altman was born December 27, 1940 in Houston, Missouri. He passed away August 25, 2011 in Houston, Missouri.

He attended school in California and was a Veteran of the United States Army. Early in his military career he was a Golden Glove Boxer. He served multiple tours over seas including two deployments in Vietnam where he served as Door Gunner in a Helicopter and was wounded in action. He received many awards and decorations including a Purple Heart.

After retiring from the military he bought a home and settled his family in Lawton, OK where he later retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company before returning to Houston to be near his Mother.

He married Frances E. Piper while stationed at Anchorage, Alaska on November 20, 1959. They were together for 32 years until she preceded him in death on April 3, 1992.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother William (Billy) Altman, a sister Josephine Troncale, one grandson Jamie Fortner and his second wife Adela Altman.

Survivors include 4 children: son and wife Kenneth and Tina Altman of Dallas, TX, a daughter Max Altman of Lawton, OK, a daughter and husband Pamela and Robert James also of Lawton, OK and a son Elwin Altman of West Plains, MO; 9 Grandchildren, two of them have followed his legacy by joining the military and proudly fighting for our country; 12 Great Grandchildren, a brother and wife Lawrence and Gail Altman of St. Louis, MO and various others.

He enjoyed watching many different sports and was an avid bowler, joining many leagues throughout the years and receiving an award for bowling a perfect game.
