OBITUARY Iron County Reporter July 2 2003 "Obituaries: Kurt Maki"
BUENO PARK, Calif.-Kurt Edward Maki, 51, formerly of Iron River, died June 22 from a swimming accident in Halaula, Hawaii where he was vacationing with members of the Sierra Club.
He was born June 7, 1952 in Stambaugh, the son of Arthur and Helen (Petroff) Maki. He attended the Caspian and Stambaugh schools and graduated from the West Iron County High School in 1970. While in high school he was an honor student, played drums in the band, and maintained a perfect four year attendance record. He had also worked part time at the former A&P Store. He attended Michigan Tech University and then transferred to Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit where he received a degree in structural civil engineering in 1979. He moved to Lompoc, Calif. where he earned his Masters Degree in Business at Golden Gate University. He worked for Rockwell International in Lompoc and then moved to the Los Angeles area where he worked for the Boeing America Corporation in Anaheim, Calif. as an aerospace engineer. He was a member of the Sierra Club, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and was president of the Anaheim Toastmaster's organization.
He loved his family, especially his niece and nephews. He enjoyed traveling and in 1987 went to Finland with his parents. He also traveled to the Mediterranean Sea, China and Alaska. He enjoyed downhill skiing, hiking, deer hunting and fishing with his father and brothers. He was preceded in death by an infant sister Kathleen in 1956.
He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Arthur (Paula) and Kenneth (Jane), both of Iron River; a sister Jane Schinella of Iron River; a special friend Annsha Lee Maki of Bueno Park; two step sons, George and Alex Lee of Bueno Park; one niece, three nephews; and his dog Ceasar.
Visitation and funeral services were held June 30 at the Langenberg Funeral Home - Iron River Chapel with the Rev. Fred Kinsey and the Rev. Dr. Kim Beckmann, pastors of Trinity Lutheran Church in Iron River, officiating.
Pallbearers were George and Alex Lee, Nicholas and Forrest Maki, Aaron Schinella and Richard Christensen.
Burial was in the Stambaugh Cemetery.

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP-Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Maki of Stambaugh Township have announced the marriage of their son Kurt Edward to Annsha Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Huang of Rowland Heights, Calif. The marriage took place in Las Vegas, Nev. with Dr. Robert A. Young, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Mission, officiating.
The groom's parents hosted a dinner and reception honoring the bride and groom on Nov. 26 at the Bates Township Hall for 85 guests. Sally Karvala, organist, entertained throughout the evening.
The bride is a graduate pharmacist and is employed by Gains Drugs in Artsia, Calif. The groom is a 1970 graduate of West Iron County High School and a 1980 graduate of Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit. He is currently employed as a structural engineer with Rockwell International of Fullerton, Calif.
The couple is at home in Bueno Park, Calif.
