OBITUARY Iron River Reporter March 25 1922 "Bert Allen Is Taken By Death"
John Bert "Daddy" Allen passed away at the family home about 5 o'clock this morning. The news of his death will come as a distinct shock to the many friends the Iron River pioneer has made during his residence here.
One of those energetic, everyday-steady workers in life, he gained the esteem and beloved respect of all who knew him. Born in Fort Atkinson, Wis., 52 years ago, he came to Iron River when but a boy of 12 years. Required to shift for himself, he took the days as they came, working steadily -- one of those who helped to turn the wheels of the world.
For many years he was in the employ of the Northwestern Cooperage and Lumber Co., when that company carried on operations here. Twelve years ago he left the service of that company and has been employed in the mines since that time. Mr. Allen had been ailing for a year, his condition growing worse until the grim reaper claimed him early today. Scores of friends will deeply regret the passing of the pioneer and their deepest sympathy is extended to the grieving relatives.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Dorothy, aged 5 years; two brothers, Frank and Jesse Allen of Iron River; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Ciperile of Sheridan, Wis., Mrs. Luella Canfield of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Joe Brown of Iron River.
The deceased was an active worker in the Eagle's Lodge and a member of the Methodist church in this city.
Funeral services will be held from the family home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W. Combellack officiating. Burial will probably be held in charge of the Eagle's lodge and at Iron River cemetery.
Mrs. Luella Canfield of Los Angeles will not be here for the funeral, but another sister, Mrs. Belle Ciperile of Sheridan will arrive tomorrow.

FUNERAL NOTICE Iron River Reporter March 29 1922 "John Bert Allen Is Laid To Rest"
John Bert Allen was laid to rest in the Iron River cemetery following a solemn and impressive funeral ceremony held from the family home at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon with the Rev. W. Combellack, pastor of the First M.E. church, officiating. Rev. Combellack paid a well-deserved tribute to the Iron River pioneer, after which the favorite hymns of the deceased were sung by the choir of the church.
Services at the grave were in charge of the Iron River Aerie of Eagles, of which the deceased was a member and active worker. The pall bearers, chosen from the members of the lodge, were Wm. Waite, Zigmund Ziskowiski, Frank Silverthorn, John Clemens, Fred Rogers, and Joseph Kondra.
