Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church at 3 o-clock Monday afternoon, November 3 for Mary Ellen Adams of near Girard, who died Saturday at the home of a son, Frank Adams of Spur. Rev. J.T. Campbell of Plainview and Rev. H.L. Porter conducted the services.
Mrs. Adams who had been in ill health was visiting in the home of her son in order to be near medical care, but at the time of her death her condition was better and she had made plans to return to her home. She was born January 1, 1870 and had lived in Texas all her life, coming to Dickens County in 1938 and made her home near Girard. She was married to W.H. Adams on January 24, 1896 in Hamilton County, Texas. She was converted at the age of 13 and was affiliated with the Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were W.C. Adams, Jesse Morrison, J.B. Morrison, Jr., L.A. Boland, M.A. Darden and James Stewart.
Interment was in Spur Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are her husband, W.H. Adams of Girard; four daughters, Clara and Willie Adams of Girard; Lera Simpson, Roseburg, Oregon and Maybel Driver, Rochester. Four sons, Emory of Goldthwaite, Clarence and Fred of New Mexico and Frank of Spur. Four brothers, John Baker, A.R. Baker, J.C. Baker and James Baker; Four sisters, Lottie Clover, Agnes Flippen, Nettie Anderson and Martha Whitlock. Eight grandchildren also survive.
