Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, northeast of town, at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. H. Heitfield of Lawton, brother-in-law of Mr. Wernli, officiating. Assisting was Rev. Ralph Young of Chickasha, the pastor. Several selections were sung by Misses Patsy Bailey, Ralpeha Elliott, Dell Sikes, Pat Burns, Caroline White and Wanda Tillman, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Ernest Pohlemann. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Crews Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Arnold Mindemann, George Mindemann, A.W. Burton, Van Hunt, Walter Wiegand and Adolph Franke.

Mr. Wernli came to this community in 1904 and settled on a farm which had been his home since that time. He never married and with him lived his sister Annie. He had been a life-long member of the Lutheran church and had been a charter member and elder of St. Peter's Church.
