TO JACOB WERNLI, 68
Apache Farmer Dies in Oklahoma City Hospital; Had Lived Near Here 44 Years
Jacob Wernli, 68 years old, who had resided 4 miles Northeast of Apache for 44 years, died in Wesley hospital Friday night of cancer of the stomach. He underwent an operation three weeks ago. He had been in failing health almost a year.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, northeast of town, at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. H. Heitfield of Lawton, brother-in-law of Mr. Wernli, officiating. Assisting was Rev. Ralph Young of Chickasha, the pastor. Several selections were sung by Misses Patsy Bailey, Ralpeha Elliott, Dell Sikes, Pat Burns, Caroline White and Wanda Tillman, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Ernest Pohlemann. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Crews Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Arnold Mindemann, George Mindemann, A.W. Burton, Van Hunt, Walter Wiegand and Adolph Franke.
Mr. Wernli was born Thalhelm, Switzerland, June 20, 1880. At the age of 9 he came to the United States with his parents and located near Belleville, Texas, where they lived two years, and later resided for 14 years near Pfluegerville and Taylor, Texas.
Mr. Wernli came to this community in 1904 and settled on a farm which had been his home since that time. He never married and with him lived his sister Annie. He had been a life-long member of the Lutheran church and had been a charter member and elder of St. Peter's Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Henry of the home address, and Sam of Temple, Tex.; and two sisters, Mrs. H. Heitfield of Lawton and Miss Annie Wernli.
