VINTON — Thomas "Tommy" James Babineaux, 58, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge after a brief battle with cancer.

He was a member of the Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineers Association. He was also a musician and a member of the Southern Silver and Bayou Country bands.

Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Jessica Babineaux Turnipseed and husband Dr. Joey Turnipseed of Baton Rouge; one son, Brandon James Babineaux of Baton Rouge; his father, Charlie Babineaux and wife Dorothy of Vinton; one sister, Wanda Babineaux Stine and husband Jay Stine of DeRidder; and one grandchild, Thomas Kieren Cockerham. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eva Ewing Babineaux; and one sister, Martha Babineaux Trahan.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, from St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Niblett's Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
