Recent Deaths and Funerals

Rothie B. Altman, 52 years old of Georgetown and Pawley's Island died unexpectedly about noon Saturday, while at his work.

Funeral services were held at 4 pm Monday, at Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. Officiating were the Rev. C. O. Bell, pastor, and Rev. G. B. Corley. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Altman was born in Georgetown County, December 17 1898, and was a son of Mrs. Elizabeth Haselden Altman and the late Martin L. Altman.

He attended the old Union School and Winyah High School, taking a course in business administration. During World War I Mr. Altman served in the navy and was stationed for sometime at Annapolis MD.

For a number of years, Mr. Altman was connected wit the Burahm Life Insurance Company. During world chairman of the rationing board. In 1948 he built and began the operation of the Carolina motor court at Pawley's Island. For the past several months he had been connected wit the local employment office.

Mr. Altman was an active member of the Georgetown Post of the American Legion. He was a member of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow the former Miss Agness Luckan; two sons Rothie B. Altman Jr of Georgetown; and R. Linwood Altman of Sumter; a daughter Miss Laverne Altman of Georgetown; his mother of Georgetown; two grandchildren; four brothers W. M. Altman, M. L. Altman Jr., Winston Altman, and Loris Altman all of Georgetown; three sisters Mrs Ethel Cribb and Mrs. Eunice Hilliard both of Georgetown and Mrs. Dorothy Elmore of Panama City FLA.
