Mary Jane (Richardson) Blocker was the daughter of Ed and Lizzie Richardson. She was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Mary Jane attended Schofield private school, in Aiken, SC. Mary Jane was also a teacher in the Oceangrove School System, in South Carolina for twenty three years. In 1910, she was married to the late George Allen Stevens Sr. They became parents of two daughters, (Emma Mae and Hattie Julia), and a son George Allen Stevens Jr. Her husband George
Allen died in 1937. She dearly loved the Lord Jesus and was a member of the Oceangrove Baptist Church, Mary Jane worked there dilligently, for the cause of Christ. Upon retiring from teaching she moved to Jamaica, New York, and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church. There she served as president of the Missionary Circle for twelve years. When Mary Jane moved to New York City, she joined the Southern Baptist Church. Mary Jane served untiringly, in the Senior Missionary Society, and was Treasurer and Chaplain, of the Senior Choir No. 1.
