Sarah F. "Sanny" Walls Carter, 87, of Martinsville died on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Grandview Health & Rehabilitation.
She was born on February 25, 1921 in Frankfort, Indiana, to the late Dennis L. and Chinesa Josephine (Bourke) Lipp.
On February 27, 1940 she married Lloyd Dallas Walls. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1986. On May 25, 1991 she married Byron Carter, who also preceded her in death on April 1, 2004.
Throughout the 1960's – 1990's she worked at the Gene Lewis Restaurant, Phelps and Staggs Drug Stores and Mary's Hallmark Store all in Martinsville. She also volunteered countless hours at the Morgan County Hospital (Morgan Hospital & Medical Center) where she received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
As a lifetime resident of Martinsville, she was active with the Hospital Guild for many years and served as past vice-president and chaplain of the Women of the Moose. She was also a member of Eastview Christian Church.
Family gatherings, flower gardening, birds, dancing, playing cards and music were among her favorite pastimes.
She is survived by fives sons, Dallas, Michael, Steve and Lester Gordon Walls all of Martinsville and Tommy Walls of Spencer; three daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Craven, Myra Christie and Rebecca Jo Pobalis all of Martinsville; 23 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Duane Walls; three brothers, Evert, Lester and Michael Lipp; three sisters, Mabel Kelly, Anna Richardson and Edith Etchison; one granddaughter and one great grandson.
Burial will follow in Mahalasville Cemetery in Martinsville.
