Birth: Aug. 4, 1921
Death: Jan. 8, 2005

ALVIN, JEROME, J., 83, of Mullica Township, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 after a lengthy illness.

Jerry was born on August 4, 1921 to Joseph and Mary (Pisanelli) Alvin in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was raised in Indianola, Pa. He has lived in southern New Jersey his entire life.

Jerry served his country in the US Army from September 1942 until September 1943, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Jerry was a tool and die maker for RCA, Camden for 39 years. He also served as supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for the Mt. Laurel Township Public Schools from 1978 until his retirement in 1990. In his later years, he could often be found in his shed working on a project, from fixing a toy for a grandchild, repairing an appliance to working with his grandson, Matt on scientific projects. He could literally repair anything.

Jerry was a train enthusiast and an avid fan of John Wayne cowboy movies, of which he had an extensive collection. Jerry liked people and made friends easily wherever he went, even up to his last days at Ocean Point Nursing Health Care Center and ACMC CVU and ICU. His family was his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine (Deitz Mynes) of Mullica Township; his children, Sister Sandra Alvin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donna and Dan Ives of Charleston, SC, Robert A. Mynes of Mullica Township, Marilyn McDonnell of Galloway Township; his grandchildren, Michele and Dave Atkinson of Mantua, Jacqueline and Steve Mekanik of Doylestown, Pa, Matthew and Amanda McDonnell of Greenville, NC, Richard and Stephanie McDonnell of Galloway Township, Jeffrey McDonnell of Galloway Township, Robert J. Mynes of Pleasantville and Nina Ives of Pennsauken; and five great grandchildren, Holly, Heather, Christopher and his two newest great granddaughters, Samantha and Adelle, in whom he took special delight. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Zook of Delran; nephew, Jack and Iris Zook of Moorestown; good friend, Dave Raffo of Buena Vista Township; and many other friends, family and acquaintances.

The Funeral Service will be held at Wimberg Funeral Home, 400 Liverpool Avenue, Egg Harbor City where friends may call. Interment will follow at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery.
