[NOTE!!! - I have been notified that Ermil was not buried in this cemetery. The copy of the death certificate that I received from the State of California, two obituaries in the Santa Cruz newspaper, and an obituary published in her home town of Wapello, Iowa (2 weeks after her death, no less), all stated she was buried in this cemetery. However, the cemetery records indicate that she was only cremated at this cemetery, with burial in "Monmouth cemetery". Ermil was a resident of Monmouth, Illinois for a number of years, during her first marriage, and at the time of her death, her sister, Mrs. Eva Bailey Mincher, was a resident of Monmouth. It's possible that she was buried in Monmouth cemetery, but records have not yet been checked. It's also possible that her ashes were sent on to Wapello, Iowa, and were placed in the family plot there. The cemetery in Wapello though had years ago stated that they had no record of her burial, despite a marker bearing her name in the family plot. It was then assumed that the marker was a cenotaph (memorial marker). I will leave this memorial in place until the location of her ashes can be determined.]

Daughter of James M. Bailey and his wife Alice Storks. Ermil married Leonard Merle Mahaffey on 14 March 1906 in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois. To this marriage, daughter Evelyn Elizabeth was born. They later divorced. Ermil then married Thomas Crane about 1918, and they divorced after 1930. Finally, Emril married Benjamin Harding Ames about 1940.

Ermil was survived by her daughter, Mrs. Evelyn (Julius) Wixson, granddaughter Claire Janet Wixson (married Charles Henry Nealis in 1950); sisters Clara Graham of Glendale, CA (widow of Frank Roy Graham, later married a Mr. Stuart), and Eva Taylor (Lewis Cass) Mincher of Monmouth, Illinois.

A marker bearing Ermil's name is located in the family burial plot at Wapello Cemetery, Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa. See note above.
