A native of Oakland, he has lived in Santa Cruz 91 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary of Santa Cruz, son Gordon Allen of Peoria, AZ and two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Isidro Baeza of Santa Cruz and Leslie and Tom Fischer of Royal Oaks.
He is also survived by his step-son Joe Lopez of San Jose and six grandchildren: Chris Allen of Washington, Kelly Hart, San Diego, Tammy Marie McDowell of Gault, Kevin Fischer of Royal Oaks, Craig Lopez, Arizona and Danielle Lopez, Los Angeles; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bert was a flower grower on Westside Santa Cruz for many years. He also was a Valvoline Oil distributor.
Together with Mary, they were members of the Eagles, the Lucky Steppers Square-Dancers, and they also enjoyed league bowling together. Bert also enjoyed antique cars and restoring them. In earlier years, Bert played softball.
Private entombment will be in the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Santa Cruz Memorial.
