COBDEN - Arty Oard Adams, 96, of Cobden, formerly of Cypress, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, in the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center.

He was born Jan. 29, 1917, in the southeast corner of Union County, the son of Harrison and Grace Penrod Adams.

Arty married Coleta Osman and she preceded him in death. He later married Reba Brasel.

Oard is survived by his loving wife, Reba Adams of Anna; one sister, Jessalyn Canupp of Paducah; nephews, Phil (Linda) Osman of Cypress, Larry (Billie) Parks of Paducah, J.R. Parks of Paducah, Keith (Ursula) Larson of Boston, Mass., Kurt (Susan) Larson of Florence, Texas, Steve Anderson of Anderson, Ind., Scott Anderson of Magnolia, Texas., Reed Anderson of Capistrano Beach, Ga..; nieces, Lynn (Freddie) Mendoza of Georgetown, Texas, Celeste (Dwight) Lindeman of Noblesville, Ind.; sister-in-law, Ruth (Larry) Larson of Florence, Texas; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Coleta Adams; two sisters Glenna Glass and Mae Parks; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Canupp, John Glass and Wayne Parks.

Oard was a faithful member of First Church of God, where he served as trustee and Sunday school teacher. As a youngster he walked with Bible in hand and attended services at Mount Pisgah Methodist Church.

Oard worked many years for Illinois Department of Transportation as a state inspector of materials for the bituminous plants. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, hunting with his Beagles and watching sports on TV.
