Funeral rites were held Friday, January 11 at the First Baptist Church for L.E. Alford who died suddenly at his home on North Manvel Tuesday afternoon.... Men who served as pallbearers were Bill Stadler, Bill Roberts, Walter Mathis, Homer Sudheimer, Virgil Rowlan and Will Rogers. Interment was in the New Zion Cemetery.
L.E. Alford was born July 22, 1890, near Owensboro, Ky., and departed this life at his home in Chandler January 8, 1946, at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 7 days.
In 1906 the family moved to Oklahoma settling near Anadarko in Caddo Co., moving to Lincoln County in 1911. On October 27, 1912, he was united in marriage with Louie Sallie Harris and to this union nine children were born; four infant children who preceded their father in death; Otis Doyle of Salinas, Calif.; Mrs. Aletha Standall, also of Salinas; Mrs. La Vonne Dyer of Chandler; and Fay and L.E. Jr. of the home address.
From the farm where the first home was established, Mr. Alford accepted employment in the oil field at the opening of the Davenport field in 1924, following the oil field work as a profession nearly 22 years.
As a young man, Mr. Alford united with the Methodist church, transferring his membership to the Union Friends church where he remained a member to the time of his death. He was a regular attendant at the services of the Baptist church.
Lon Alford was a faithful husband and a loving father who lived for his home and his family. He was a substantial citizen and his friendly, kindly disposition made and kept for him a large circle of friends who were shocked and grieved at his untimely passing.
Survivors in addition to the wife and five children include two brothers: Gus of San Diego, Calif., and C.E. of Chandler; four sisters, Mrs. A.M. Wright, and Mrs. E.B. Mattingly, both of San Diego; Mrs. F.C. Boyd of Hawsville, Ky., and Mrs. H.A. Snodgrass of Chicago, Ill.; two half-brothers, Walter Conrad of Chandler and J.C. Alford of Owensboro, Ky.; one half-sister, Mrs. Wilbur Reeks of Crescent City, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Edward Doyle, Donaleta and Vonna Lou Alford of Salinas, Calif.
