Joseph Bacon was the son of Thomas Clark and Elizabeth Ann (Slagle) Bacon. He was the grandson of John and Sarah (Kenyon) Bacon and John A. and Rhoda (Sears) Slagle. Joseph was only 14 1/2 months old when his mother died of pneumonia. Per family history he was placed in a foster home. His date of death is not known at this time. Additional information from descendants of Thomas Bacon stated Joseph was killed in a barn fire and was buried in the Rock Prairie Cemetery in Polk Co., Missouri. Per the Cemetery Directory of Polk County there is a "Joe Bacon" interred in the Rock Prairie Cemetery. However there are no dates recorded. On 4 May 1895, Thomas Bacon listed Joseph Bacon, born 29 Oct 1882, as a living child when he applied for a Civil War veteran's pension.
