Son of Elmer Roy Babcock & Nancy Priscilla Deatherage. Husband of Lou Ann Moore.
Gene Babcock died while trying to restrain a gunshot victim at Heartland Hospital. Gene was knocked down by the man, causing him to fall on his back against a large scale. He was examined in the emergency room after complaining of pain, shortness of breath and dizziness and died a short time later, authorities said.

Gene Babcock, 54, Route 1, Agency MO, died early Wednesday afternoon at a local hospital. Mr. Babcock was employed by Heartland Hospital West as a security guard and also had farmed in the Agency community.
He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Ann Moore Babcock, in January 1979.
He was a member of the Agency Christian Church, was president of the Faucett MO Lions Club and was also a member of the Agency Cemetery Board.
Surviving are his son, Michael Gene Babcock, Agency; three daughters, Barbara Joyce Roe and Margaret (Peggy) Diane Roe, both of St. Joseph, and Debra Ann Babcock of the home; two brothers, Roy Dale Babcock, Gladstone MO, and Homer Babcock, Houston; two sisters, Helen Joy Williams, Dearborn MO, and Minnie Lou Miller, St. Joseph; his stepmother, Lillian Babcock, St. Joseph; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Burial will be at the Agency Cemetery.
