Son of John and Hepsibeth (Howe) Allen.
He married Nancy J. Harvey, daughter of James Harvey and Lucy Ray.
On 1 Feb 1862 Alonzo, a farmer, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was 38 years, 8 months and 25 days old.
Alonzo, together with his three nephews, Warren and William H. Walker, brothers, and their cousin, George W. Allen, all served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Co. F.
On 17 Sep 1862 he was wounded at The Battle of Antietam in both thighs, and on 3 Oct 1862, he was sent to New York.
On 22 Oct 1862 in the "Worcester Spy," Worcester, Massachusetts, Alonzo was mentioned among the wounded at the Patent Office hospital in Washington, D.C.
On 1 Feb 1863 Alonzo ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts for disability from wounds received in action.
Alonzo Allen received a veteran's pension on 18 Jun 1878.
On 21 May 1886 Nancy, his wife, died at Brimfield, Massachusetts, of rheumatism at age 58.
Alonzo was enumerated in the 1890 US Federal census, Veteran's Schedule in Jun 1890 at Brimfield, as having served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
He died on 13 May 1900 at Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, of abdominal cancer. He was 77 years and 6 days old.
