Grant AIKEN, born near Parrish, Franklin County, Illinois, on 7 March 1865, the son of James M. and Mary CARTER AIKEN; and died at his home in Benton 18 December 1939. He was the ninth of a family of ten children. His father, familiarly called "Mack AIKEN" was a former sheriff of Franklin County. He wed Miss Belle MADDOX on 24 December 1885. She was the daughter of Henry and Eliza Jane MADDOX. There was born to this union four children. One died in infancy, another at age one, and the third at three years. Early in life he engaged in farming in Crawford Prairie and in 1902 located in Benton. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Nell WILLIAMS of Gary, Indiana; a grandson, Jack MERRYMAN; and one sister, Mrs. Malinda CRISP, wife of Alfred CRISP of Parrish, Illinois. Burial will take place at the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery.
