Louis was one of ten brothers and sisters whose family can be traced only to his grandfather, a wood merchant from Torun, Poland (the birthplace of Copernicus).
Louis Lachmann was an architect of considerable reputation in Berlin, designing one of the city's opera houses. He was also a violinist.
He died when his daughter, Vera Lachmann was only 4-years old.
