There has been an Abernathy practicing law in Collin County continuously since 1876. The Abernathy brothers moved from Holly Springs, Mississippi, to McKinney then. The three brothers, Mercer Green, William Meshack, and G. E. (Ed), were all attorneys. Abernathy Brothers Law Firm opened in McKinney in 1876. In 1888, Mercer was elected county judge
