VERNER L. ADAMS LONG PROMINENT NEVADAN PASSES
Verner L. Adams, widely known, long time Nevada resident, died Sunday night at his home, 1 Skyline Blvd. Mr. Adams had suffered from a heart ailment for several months and had been confined to a hospital, but returned home. He had been improving and attended a wedding reception Sunday afternoon where he greeted many old friends. He fell ill shortly after returning home and death followed within a few minutes.

Mr. Adams was born May 31, 1882, in Canon City, Colorado, where he spent the early years of his life. He was married to Miss Cora E. Varble there in 1902. Moving to Nevada in 1907, the couple settled first in the mining town of Wonder, in Churchill County. He managed the post office, general store and hotel there and subsequently operated stores and hotels and had mining interests in Fairview, Thompson and Aurora.

Moving to Reno in 1918, Mr. Adams had lived here ever since, engaging in the wholesale produce business. He also continued active in mining and had a mine operation in northern Humboldt County, a few miles east of the Washoe County line at the time of his death.

His long experience in the wholesale produce business made him a valuable asset to the Office of Price Administration in WWII and the Office of Price Stabilization which operated during the Korean Conflict. He was head of the food price division of the OPA from 1942 to 1947 and was price analyst for OPS in Reno until the office closed a few months ago.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Eva Adams, administrative assistant to Senator Pat McCarran, and Mrs. David Herstine of Reno; a grandson, David P. Herstine, and three great-grandchildren, Susan, Gerald and Thomas Herstine, all of Reno; and two brothers, Claude W. Adams of Montrose, California, and Harl S. Adams of Moscow, Idaho.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday. Burial will follow in the Masonic cemetery.
