U.S. Veteran Rev. Fr. Craig Lawrence Albrecht, Bay City, Michigan. Loving son, brother, uncle, Diocesan Priest and friend passed away suddenly Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the church rectory. Age 52 years. Son of Theresa A. (Groll) Albrecht and the late Edward Albrecht, Craig was born May 7, 1961 in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Arthur Hill High School Class of 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence from 1981 to 1985. Craig was a chef at the Montague Inn. He then attended University of St. Thomas and St. John Vianney Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota and St. Michael's College of Theology in Toronto. Rev. Fr. Craig was ordained by Most Rev. Kenneth E. Untener on May 28, 1995 and then served as an associate pastor of St. Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, served as pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill, sacramental minister at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hemlock. Later, he was pastor at St. Mary of the Assumption, Bay City. Fr. Craig was also a chaplain to the Bay County Sheriff Department, Knights of Columbus Council #414 in Bay City, Nouvel Catholic Central High School, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and Regional Vicar. Fr. Craig was a member of Bay Area Clergy Group, Knights of Columbus Council #4232 and Monsignor Thomas Horton Assembly #2049. He also served on the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission. Fr. Craig was an avid WWE fan, U of M, the Tigers, the Lions, Red Wings fan, and a member of St. Hubert Hunting Camp. Surviving are his mother, Theresa A. Albrecht, Thomas Township; two sisters and two brothers , Rebecca Williams, Bullhead City, Arizona; Dion and Laurie Albrecht, Brant; Derek Albrecht and his girlfriend Marcia, Bay City; Stephanie Albrecht, Saginaw; his step-mother, Sue Albrecht, Clio; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews especially Kelsie and Logan Albrecht. Fr. Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Elsie Groll and Edward and Ethel Albrecht. Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday May 31, 2013 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 607 E. South Union St., Bay City, Michigan. The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone will preside and Fr. Rob Howe will be the homilist. Committal Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Merrill, Michigan with Military Services conducted by V.F.W. Post # 1859. Friends may call at the church where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council will pray the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Thursday and a Vigil Service will take place 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church or S.P.R.E.D.
