Odis Blanton, 90, of Bowling Green, entered into rest November 15, 2014 at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home where a celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday November 18, 2014 with burial in Otter Gap Cemetery. A native of Edmonson county, he was born of the late Joe and Lavinia Blanton. He is preceded in death by one brother, John Henry Blanton; two sisters, Wilo Dean Rich and Laverne Watt. He is survived by one brother, Raymond Blanton of Chalybeate; his wife of 55 years Joyce Blanton; one son, Joey Blanton of Bowling Green; two daughters, Sheila Blanton Dunklau of Bowling Green and Denise Blanton Beck of Owensboro; two son in laws, Buddy Dunklau of Bowling Green and Barry Beck of Owensboro; one daughter in law, Carolyn Blanton of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren, Hank Dunklau of Brentwood, TN, Megan Biard of Brentwood, TN, Joseph Blanton of Gallatin, TN, Kara Decker of Bowling Green, Wendy Sutrick of Owensboro, Tonya Beck of Owensboro, and Austin Beck of Owensboro; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was a business man, entertainer, sales supervisor of the Burley Tobacco Market, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and dedicated KY Colonel. As an entertainer of country music he formed a band named, Odis Blanton and the Blue Star Rangers, who went on to achieve much success by performing live on WBKO, WLBJ, and WBGN, and entertained many at live dances held at Beach Bend Park. His radio show, Blanton's Barn dance, entertained the masses. He was co-owner of Blanton Chandler Music Center and founder of Blanton Insurance, where he worked for 40 years and retired at the age of 90. Visitation begins at 2:00pm Monday November 17, 2014 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and ends at 9:00pm. Come celebrate the life of this amazing man.
