He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps on Jan. 7, 1959, serving in Okinawa, and was honorably discharged as a corporal on Dec. 14, 1962.
Following his discharge, Bernard returned to Ironwood where he was employed as a cabinetmaker at Schult Mobile Homes for several years.
He was a former member of Ironwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1823.
Surviving are a sister, Marilyn Baker, of Crystal Falls, Mich.; two nieces; a nephew; and numerous cousins.
Out of respect for Bernard's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Private services will be held.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
