Funeral services for Miss Bessie Alcorn, 76, were Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Rev. Hall Barrett, Dr. Charles Sharpe ministers of the Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in the Cookeville City Cemetery.
Miss Alcorn, ill for many months, died Friday at the Cookeville General Hospital. A native of Putnam County she had spent the greater part of her life in Cookeville. A member of pioneer families she was the daughter of the late George W. and Josephine Garner Alcorn, and was a retired teacher.
She taught in the local schools, in Florida and for some years was located in Williams, Arizona.
Following her retirement she divided her time here and in Pasadena, California. She returned from the latter city more than a year ago and was at home on E. 6th Street. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Miss Alcorn is survived by three sisters, Mrs. C. N. Gracey, Mrs. Fred Luck, Cookeville, Mrs. Fletcher Bly, Pasadena, CA; two brothers, Felix Alcorn, Holbrook, AZ & Robert Alcorn, Chattahoochee, FL.
Serving as pallbearers were Judge John Holladay, James A. Carlen of Cookeville and the nephews, Edward Gracey, Donelson, Fletcher Luck, Lafayette, Bob Alcorn, Chattahoochee, FL & Howard Hale, Kingsport.
