The lives we lead are filled with challenges, but also triumphs, from the little victories throughout our days, to much bigger, better accomplishments, the hallmarks of who we are. Barry Albers was a young man who faced many challenges in his life, yet also such a great accomplishment, the triumph of his loving family, who remember him.

Barry's story began on a beautiful spring day in 1980, in the bustling city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Those were times of such turmoil and change in this country, as the Cold War raged on, President Jimmy Carter lost the election in a landslide to Ronald Reagan, and Mount St. Helens erupted so dramatically. The Empire Strikes Back provided a much-needed diversion for people in theaters everywhere. On May 12, 1980, Larry Albers and Debra Bronkhorst found a reason to celebrate, with the birth of a son they named Barry.

Barry grew up in the Holland, Michigan, area, though in his childhood he suffered the loss of his father, who died in 1986. With his father gone, Barry looked up to his older brother Larry as a child, who was 10 years his senior. Sadly, his brother died in 2003, which affected him so deeply.

Barry persevered, thanks to the love of his family. His mother Debra remarried to Neal Staat, and Barry had four step-siblings to lean on, Robin, Mark, Derrick and Brandon.

Eventually Barry would have a family of his own, when he met a wonderful young woman named April Allen, and quickly fell in love. The two were married, and together they had two beautiful children, Jenna and Jevik, who were the pride and joy of Barry's life.

Barry provided for his family by working as a fabricator in the Holland and Saugatuck area, and worked hard for them. They also attended the New Richmond Baptist Church together on Sundays.

Sadly, Barry was killed in an automobile accident April 3, 2007.

Barry was a young man who faced many challenges in his life, yet also such a wonderful triumph, found in the eyes and arms of his loving wife and children. He was taken from us too soon, but his life, and his love, lives on in the family he loved most of all. He will be greatly missed.

Barry was survived by his wife, April Albers of Holland; his children, Jenna and Jevik Albers, both at home; his mother, Debra Staat of West Olive; his step father Neal Staat of Holland; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Allen of Holland; his step sisters and brothers, Robin Staat of Grand Rapids, Mark and Connie Staat of Holland, Derrick and Tami Staat of Holland, Brandon Staat of Missoula, MT; his grandmothers, Barbara Bronkhorst of Holland and Marian and Claude Hill of Hudson, FL; his brother-in-law, Robert Allen of Holland; and several nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral: Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Frank Senters officiating.
