ALTO PASS - Avis L. Arnold, 94, died at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Mrs. Arnold was born Aug. 1, 1912, near Pomona, the daughter of Harold Hillard and Eva A. (Reeve) Inman.
She married James W. "Bud" Arnold on Oct. 8, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1965, after 32 years of marriage.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alto Pass, a member of the WMU, and she taught Sunday school and Pioneer Girls for several years. She was a piano teacher for most of her life and also worked as a postal clerk with her husband for several years, retiring in 1977. She was the honored guest at the recent Alto Pass Zip Code Day.
She leaves to mourn a nephew, Frank Eugene Inman of Eagle River, Wis.; nieces, Iris Davis of St. Louis, Katherine Yearian of Murphysboro; two special nieces, Barbara Anne Crain of Cape Girardeau and Maribeth Smith of Cobden; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; 29 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; 34 great-great-great nieces and great-great-great-nephews; and many friends and acquaintances who lover her, to whom she was known "Miss Avis." She will be noted for her good humor and loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Lorraine, Lloyd, Willard and Byron Arnold; nephew, Forrest "Bud" Inman; nieces, Mary Clutts and Barbara Stearns; two great-nieces and great-nephews; three great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and two great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, in First Baptist Church of Alto Pass with the Rev. Roger Rector officiating. Interment will be in Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass and after 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Alto Pass, Alto Pass Cemetery or Dutch Ridge Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
