Fred R. Bailey, 73, a well known farmer in east Keeler for the past 36 years, died at his home there Thursday evening after an illness of ten days.

His body was brought to the Zuver & Calvin funeral home here where a prayer service was held at 1:30 this afternoon, followed by funeral rites from the Keeler Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Thomas Pollard, local pastor, officiated. Burial was in Keeler cemetery.

Mr. Bailey was born at Grass Lake, Mich., and as a child came to Hartford with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bailey, pioneer farmers here. The greater part of his life was spent in Hartford and Keeler.

Surviving him are his wife, Verne, and four children, Miss Velma Bailey of Ypsilanti, Mrs. Leta Flickinger and Eugene Bailey of Grand Rapids, and Glen Bailey of Niles.

He also leaves one brother, Frank Bailey of Glendale, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Morehouse of Keeler. Another sister, Mrs. Sarah Day, died at Battle Creek on February 27. A brother, George of Hartford and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Allison, of Ada, Mich., are also deceased.
