LINCOLN-Laurie Marie Bennett, 56, wife of John Bennett, died April 18, 2009, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 8, 1952, in Lincoln, the daughter of John and Jeanette (Jordan) Olsen. Laurie was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, class of 1970.
On January 30, 1971, she married her best friend, John Bennett. She was known for her crafts and painting. She was a member of the Lincoln First Congregational Church, where she was an active member of the Pilgrim Daughter's, Sister's Group, Bean Supper Committee and served one term as deacon. She enjoyed camping at Abol Bridge Campground and paddling her kayak up the river to Baxter Bay and "Tadpole Terrace".
In addition to her husband, John, of Lincoln, she is survived by two daughters, Carolee Sherwood and David, of Castleton, New York and Kimberlee Bennett, of Westbrook; a brother, Larry Harding, of Louisiana; a sister, Dena Rusak, of New Jersey; three grandsons, Benjamin, Jackson and Davin Sherwood, all of Castleton, New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-father, Myron Harding, who treated her as his own.
Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery at a later date. (Clay Funeral Home on-line)
