A.P. "Buck" Azevedo
Longtime Novato resident and businessman
A.P. "Buck" Azevedo passed away peacefully on October 30th at the age of 89 with his loving family by his side. He was preceded in death by Velma, his beloved wife of 63 years. Born in Los Banos, CA to Manuel and Maria Azevedo, Buck's family moved to Novato when he was 12 years old. He attended Grant Avenue School in Novato, began full-time work in the dairy industry at age 14, and was a machinist at Mare Island during WWII. A tireless entrepreneur, Buck launched multiple successful local businesses, starting in 1952 when he and Velma opened the Novato Frozen Foods meat locker on Grant Ave. They later founded Azevedo Trucking, which they operated for 20 years and is still under family ownership. Buck was proud to be involved in the regional Portuguese community, serving many years as a member and volunteer with the IDESI Society of Novato. He also was an original member of the Novato Horseman's Association and member of Petaluma Native Sons. He also enjoyed continuing the winemaking and musical traditions of his father, sharing both with family and friends. A committed father, Buck is survived by his two daughters Linda Parr (Dan) of Novato and Eileen Morrison (Dan) of Lake County, son Dan Azevedo (Sharon) of Novato, six grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, Nov 4th at 5:30 p.m. and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato. A Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the church with burial to follow at Valley Memorial Park in Novato.
