Funeral services for Lucy "Margaret" Blakeman, 85, of Beulah, Wyoming were held Monday, December 4, 2000 at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, SD, with the Reverend Steve Olson of the United Methodist Church of Belle Fourche officiating. Burial followed at Beulah Cemetery, WY.
Mrs. Blakeman passed away November 29, 2000 at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish, SD.
She was born July 12, 1915 at Left Creek near Oshoto, WY to Robert and Sally Mae (Dillard) Singleton. She was raised near Left Creek and attended school at Cabin Creek Country School, graduating from Hulett High School in 1933. She completed her teaching certificate in Hulett and taught school at Upper Cabin Creek School for one year.
On January 11, 1936 she married William "Gerald" Blakeman in Belle Fourche. They owned and operated a grocery store and filling station in Sundance until 1939. They then moved to Moskee for a couple of years and in 1941 moved to Beulah where they made their home. Gerald died in 1987. In 1994 Lucy moved to Belle Fourche and lived, and was cared for by Donna and Darrell Ward.
Mrs. Blakeman was an active member and taught Sunday School at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sundance., WY. She was also an active member of the Birthday Club in Beulah, WY. She enjoyed writing and receiving letters from relatives and friends. She loved children and was a very giving person.
Survivors include one son Roger Blakeman of Beulah, WY; a daughter-in-law Sharon Blakeman of Sheridan, WY; one brother Jess Singleton of Hamilton, MT; two grandchildren, Richard Blakeman of Tampa, FL and Bud Blakeman of Sheridan, WY; four great-grandchildren; special friend and caregiver Donna and Darrell Ward of Belle Fourche, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband William "Gerald" in 1987; one son William Blakeman in 1997; and one grandson Russell Blakeman in 1999.
