Brief Illness Fatal Saturday To Lucy Spears Services Monday For Well-Known Woman

Mrs.Lucy Akers Spears, life long resident of Paintsville, died at her home on Main Street at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, November 2, after a short illness.

Mrs. Spears, daughter of Captain George Jackson Allen and Nancy Rice Allen, was born October 15, 1872, in Paintsville.

She was married to Thomas G. Akers of Abingdon, Virginia, in 1887.To this union were born four children, Roy Jack, Vivian, McKinley,and Dewey, all of whom preceded her in death.
She later married Ham Spears of Paintsville, since deceased.

A member of First Methodist Church from early girlhood, Mrs.Spears taught a Sunday School class for many years.She was a consecrated Christian loved by many,old and young.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs Sue Fairchild of Inez, Ky., and Mrs.Fred Howes of Paintsville, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 4,from the First Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev.O.M.Simmerman, officiating.
Active pallbearers were Bob Allen, William Allen, Brown Allen,William Martin, John L. Spears, Kenton Fairchild, John G. Wheatley,and Fred Fairchild.
Honorary pallbearers were Ben Vaughan, Garland Rice, W. b. Bailey, D. H. Dolton, L. J. Hampton, Herman Wheeler,Charles Brand, J. F. Radcliffe, William Garland, W. A. Johnson, andRussell Hager.
Burial was in the Town Cemetery.
