John Wesley Baker was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, September 2, 1825 and departed this life September 23, 1913 being 88 years and 21 days of age.
He was reared to manhood in Lawrence County, Indiana. At the age of twenty-three years he was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Gravatt. To this union eleven children were born. His wife and four children have preceded him to that better world. Seven of the children are still living, all of whom were at the bedside during his last illness and death.
Mr Baker was again united in marriage to Mrs. Emily Chevier, Gardner, Peters on July, 1898.
He leaves seven children, his aged wife, and three step children. Mrs. Charles Gable, Russell Sherman Peters, and Grant Peters of Des Moines, Iowa, a number of grandchildren and many friends to mourn their loss.
Mr. Baker united with the Baptist Church forty two years ago and has lived a consistent Christian life until death called him out of this world to be judged according to the deeds done in the body. His funeral was held at the Bethel Church at 11:00 o'clock September 24, 1913 the sermon was preached by Rev. Buchanan to a house full of friends.
