John attended Effingham Academy in New Hampshire. He is remembered as being quick & reserved, always gentlemanly & dignified, kind & courteous to all. He held various town offices as well as serving in the State Legislature in 1847 & 1848.
John married Armine (Whitten) on July 2, 1834, in Parsonsfield, ME.
