Ester Maria Andersen

August 24, 1910 January 6, 2010 Ester was born in Olympia to Finnish immigrants, Charles and Mary Hill. Her early years were spent in the logging camps of Elma and McCleary. Ester moved to Edgewood in 1922 where she met her future husband, James Andersen (left us in 1991). They were married in 1935 and had three children, Ellen, Donald (died at birth) and Mary. Their career was the family farm, which later became Andersen Angus Farm. In 1961, Jim and Ester were named Pierce County Cattlemen of the Year. They provided the Edgewood community with Angus beef, eggs, poultry and dairy items for over 40 years. Ester was an active 4-H leader, 60-year member of the Edgewood Grange, and Edgemont PTA recipient of the Golden Acorn Award in 1959. Ester loved flowers and animals, especially the numerous dogs that were her companions throughout the years. A few hobbies were bowling, fishing, baking, traveling, gardening, embroidery, crocheting, and (most importantly) visiting with people. A stranger was simply a friend that she hadn't yet met. Ester is survived by her daughters Ellen (Duane) Schmitz and Mary Andersen, granddaughter Janice (Jon) Feroy, and great grandsons Erik and Evan Feroy. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to Jeff, Cora, Vern and Nila of Cora's Elder Care, for their loving care of Ester during the past two years. A celebration of Ester's life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 21 at The Edgewood Grange, 1806 Meridian Ave E, Edgewood. You will be welcome to share your memories of Ester at that time.
