Charles Horton Alexander, 54, 1604 Bronson, was found dead at approximately noon yesterday in the parking area east of the railroad bridge by the Pecos River. His body was found by Tommy Hawkins beside his car which had the door open.

He had apparently been fishing in the lake, police said, and had come to his car possibly to get a dip of snuff. When he suffered an apparent heart attack, he slid out of the car backwards and fishing pole, stool and fish bait were found near the river, police said.

Coroner Ron A. Hoffman, M.D., declared him dead at the scene.

When relatives were notified, it was found that Alexander's brother-in-law, Louis Ponsetti, Bellaire, Ohio, also had died suddenly at about the same time.

A resident of Carlsbad 19 years, he was a miner for Southwest Potash Corp., now AMAX Chemical Corp. Services are pending at Denton Funeral Home.

He was a member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Special Deputy Sheriff and president of American Little League 1971. He was born on Jan. 12, 1917, in Neffs, Ohio.

Surviving are his widow, Mabel, Carlsbad; his father, John Alexander, Dixon Hill, Ohio; a son, John Alexander, Carlsbad; three daughters, Mary Ann and Nancy Alexander, Carlsbad, and Charlene (Mrs. Raymond) Looney of Eatontown, N.J.; a brother, Thomas S. of Carlsbad; three sisters, Mrs. Otto Thatcher, Mrs. W.K.
