George V. Acosta was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Loving, New Mexico to Jose and Clarita Acosta. He left this world to be with the Lord our Savior on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was educated in Loving and later received his GED. He married Gracie Saenz on Oct. 3, 1964 in Carlsbad. George was a potash miner for twenty years, as well as a wonderful carpenter. His pride and joy were his family and his home. He worked diligently to give his wife the home she wanted.

He is survived by his wife, Gracie of the family home and daughters, Yvonne Basabilvazo and husband George and Yvette Mendoza and husband Brian all of Carlsbad. Surviving siblings include sisters; Anita Jaquez, Azucena Rostro, and twin sister Frances "Panchita" Carrasco, who never left his side in his final days.

George is also survived by his brother, Abelardo Acosta of Modesto, California. George had many nieces and nephews for whom he loved caring for. They considered their uncle the one who they could talk and confide in. "Papo's" granddaughters, Bianca and Mikayla Basabilvazo and Briette Mendoza absolutely thought he hung the moon and he hardly went a day without seeing them. We will all miss him dearly, but know that he is waiting for each and every one of us.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Alan Rostro, Lonnie Jaquez, Joe Jaquez, Joey Acosta, Mario Carrasco, Sam "Peto" Carrasco, Orlando Carrasco and best friend, Albert Salcido.

Honorary pallbearers will be brother, Abelardo Acosta and Carl D. Brown.
