BEERS-Alton "Acky", 65, of Lyleville, R.D. Coalport, died Dec 22, 1997 at Altoona Hospital. Born May 13, 1932 in Blandburg, son of the late Levi and Alice (Van Scoyoc) Beers. Porceded in death by brothers, Richard L., Lynn and Cloyd.
Survived by wife, the former Darlene Toohey, whom he married May 25, 1950, in Coalport and these children: Judy, married to Michael Liongo, coalport; Barbar, at home; charles, married to the former Lu Anne Gauntner, Altoona; Linda McAlkitch, Bellwood; also 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and sisters, Vivian Weatherby, Silver Spring, Maryland; Grace Lovell, Harrisburg; Betty Keith, west Palm Beach, Fla; and Lucille Matthew, Fallentimber.
He was a Methodist by faith, Korean war veteran. Worked for Beth Energy Mine 33, Ebensburg for 34 years and retired in 1994. Member of UMWA District 2, Local 1368, Ebensburg, Coalport VFW, where he served as past commander; and Bellwood Moose.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2p.m. Wednesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Caolport, the Rev. Christopher Golembiowski, officiating.
Interment Lyleville Cemetery, Coalport RD. Military rite in charge of Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043, Coalport. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
