Harold T. Allen, 91, Lowville, retired owner and operator of Allen's Drug Store, died Dec. 13, at Lewis Co General Hospital where he had been a patient. A Witness of the Resurrection service was held. Burial will be in the spring in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Helen; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Blank, and Mrs. Charlotte Finn, A brother, Raymond Allen, died previously. Born in Lowville on Jan. 6, 1897, a son of Henry J. and Cora Travis Allen, he was graduated from Lowville Free Academy and later from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1922. He married Helen Jones Sept. 18, 1923, at Brownville. Mr, Allen was employed as a pharmacist in White Plains, Herkimer and Richfield Springs after his marriage. The couple moved to Lowville in 1932. Mr. Allen went to work at Bush's Drug Store in Lowville, where he had been employed during his high school years. In 1939, he purchased the drug store and changed the name to Allen's Drug Store. He operated the business for 22 years before selling it in Nov 1961 and retiring. Mr. Allen also served with the Navy during WWI, and was recognized as being one of the last surviving WWI veterans in Lewis Co. He was a 70 year member of American Legion Post 162, having served as adjutant for 16 years. He was also the longest standing member of the Lowville First Presbyterian Church, having been affiliated with the church for more than 70 years as a member and a past trustee and elder. Mr. Allen was a past
director of the board of the Lewis County Trust Co. and a former member of local Selective Service Board 48. He was also a member of the first Drum and Bugle Corps in Lowville, a member of the Lowville Rural Cemetery Assoc, and a 70-year member of the Order of Masons
