Surviving are two step sons, John Palmer of Bradenton, Florida and Allen Palmer of Iowa; four grandchildren, Terri Smith and husband Jason of Edinburg, Ill., Wendy Kendle and husband Rusty of Normal, Ill., Daniel Palmer of Chicago, Ill. and Cara Palmer of Florida; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Crane of Lakewood, California, and Eileen White and husband Don of Winchester, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Blackburn of Lockport, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a step-son, Bradley Palmer; three brothers, John in infancy, Buell Blackburn and Keith Blackburn; and a sister, Leona McEvers.
He attended Alsey and Glasgow country schools. In early years he became a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. He was drafted into the Army on February 14, 1942 and served until November of 1946, spending the later part in North Africa. He worked for 30 years as a tower guard for Joliet State Prison in Joliet, Ill.
Services were entrusted to Coonrod Funeral Home of Winchester, Illinois.
