Michael Patrick Brogan of Dania Beach, Fla., formerly of New Castle, passed away early Monday morning, April 27, 2009, in Memorial Pembroke Pines Hospital in Florida following an extended illness. He was 74. He was born April 8, 1935, in New Castle, a son of the late John and Catherine Cranney Brogan.

He attended the former St. Mary Parochial Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of New Castle High School.A veteran, he served with the Army during the Korean War. He was employed for more than 30 years by the U.S. Postal Service and retired as postmaster of the Volant Post Office.He was a member of St. Mary Church of Mother Mary of Hope Parish, and Little Flower Church in Hollywood, Fl.

Surviving are a sister, Eileen Rizzo and her husband, Anthony, of New Castle; three nieces, Cheryl Pierog of New Castle, and Patty Gabel and Michelle Portzer, both of Nevada; six nephews, Bill Buckel and Gary Buckel, both of New Castle, Jeff Buckel of Brimfield, Mass., Marty Buckel of Southington, Ohio, John Brogan of California, and Ralph Brogan of Nevada; and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Brogan and David Brogan; a niece; a nephew; and a close friend, Larry Flynn.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Church with the Rev. Victor Molka, pastor, officiating.Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either St. Mary Church, 124 N.
