LEILA MAE KROFT ALFORD

THE OREGONIAN
Portland, Multnomah Co, OR—Tuesday, 5 February 1957

Funeral for Mrs. Leila Mae Alford, who died Sunday at Portland sanitarium, will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the McGinnis and Wilhelm chapel.

Mrs. Alford, born in Iowa on September 8, 1898, had lived in Portland since 1941. She was a member of Nydia temple, Daughters of the Nile and Waverly chapter No. 134, Oregon Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene E. Alford, her father, William A. Kroft of Los Angeles, and a daughter, Mrs. Fred Ehman of Portland, three sisters and four brothers.

Entombment will be at Portland Memorial mausoleum.

Obituary says that Leila's maiden name was 'Kroft' with a 'K', but all other sources show that her father consistently spelled his name 'Croft'. The obituary spelling is likely in error.
The marriage record for Leila to Eugene Alford, as recorded in Clark County, Washington (# 3609), shows her name spelled CROFT. Daughter of W.A. Croft, born in Wisconsin; mother Elizabeth Rembe, born in Germany.
