Mason Clell Adkins died in Roseville, Ca., on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at age 88.
Born April 16, 1915, in Lincoln Creek Holler, Fillmore, Mo., Mr. Adkins graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, Iowa, in June 1934. He met and married Thelma E. Adkins in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1937 and moved to Los Angeles in 1940. During this time he worked in a cabinet shop that built parts for the gliders that were used in the Normandy Invasion. After the war he worked for a lumber company. In 1955 he moved to Woodland and opened Service Parts and Equipment, a NAPA parts store on Main St., until his retirement. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, French Gulch Community Church, fifteen year member of the Elks Lodge in Arizona and Redding, Shasta Corvair Club and Elkhorn Boat Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Scott and husband Jerry; grandson, Jeff and wife Stephanie; granddaughter, Debbie Scott-Rowe and husband Paul; great-grandsons, Kraig and Dustin Scott and Kurtis and Garrett Rowe, all of Woodland; sister, Sarah Murphy of Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma E. Adkins, in 1994; parents, Madison and Lurie Adkins; brothers, Edward and Lester; and sister, Alice.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Property Fund at St. John's United Church of Christ, 432 Cleveland St., Woodland, 95695; to the Elderly Nutrition Program, 40 N. East St., Suite C, Woodland 95776; or to charity of donor's choice, in his behalf. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.
Services: A Celebration of his Life is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 432 Cleveland St., Woodland, followed by graveside service at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
