The Very Rev. George C. F. Bratenahl served as rector of St. Alban's Church in Washington from 1898 to 1912, was named canon of Washington Cathedral in 1903, and served as Dean of the Cathedral from 1916 to 1936. As Dean, he assisted in the planning the cathedral; he also served as secretary of the third department of the Episcopal Church and the Province of Washington. He was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity and the University club and held the degree of doctor of divinity.
Dr. Bratenahl was survived by his wife, Florence Brown Bratenahl, and two sons, Charles George Bratenahl and Alexander Bratenahl.
Note: Dr. Bratenahl was originally buried at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio (FindAGrave #107735067). His body was moved from Woodland Cemetery to Washington Cathedral on October 25, 1961.
