Matthew Bliss was a machinist. He enlisted in Company D, Massachusetts 7th Infantry Regiment on 15 Jun 1861. He was promoted to full corporal and mustered out on 5 Jan 1864 at Washington, D.C. According to his Civil War records, he was wounded in the war.
He must have remarried after Clara's death, because on the 1920 census, his wife's name is Elizabeth and she was born in Iowa.
He has a son, Fred E., 36, born about 1884 in Illinois, living with he and Elizabeth.
