HANOVER, Ill. -- Margaret I. Armstrong, 94, of Hanover, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at her home in Hanover.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at United Presbyterian Church, Hanover, with the Rev. Lynne Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1915, at home near Rodden, daughter of Alfred and Bessie (Nesbitt) Virtue. She attended Black School, Hanover High School and Monmouth College in Monmouth.
Margaret taught school for two years, one at Hickory Grove and one at Robert School.
She married Wilfred Armstrong on Dec. 2, 1939, in Sussex, Wis., by the Rev. William Millen, Margaret's brother-in-law; he preceded her in death. Wilfred and Margaret farmed for more than 20 years between Hanover and Elizabeth. They moved into Hanover in 1962.
Margaret was active in the United Presbyterian Church of Hanover in the women's organizations.
Surviving are three children, Marjorie (Rod) Brand, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Linda (Forrest) Pratt ,of Hanover, and John (Cheri) Armstrong, of Saucier, Miss.; nine grandchildren, Tamara Fuligni, Kathy Hale, Raymond Brand, Richard Brand, Margaret Richmond, Jerry Pratt, Karen Nelson, John Armstrong Jr. and Joseph Armstrong; 20 great-grandchildren, Megan, Christopher, Steven, Victoria, Erica, John, Nathan, Sarah, Andrew, Nicholas, Jason, Jennifer, Janessa, Rachel, Kayla, Daniel, Carman, Julius, Sebastian and Alana; great-great-grandchildren, Ragenea, Madison and Xavier; and a son-in-law, John McKinley.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy McKinley; a great-grandson, Austin Nelson; a brother, Orville Virtue; and a sister, Clara Virtue Millen.
