Dr. Leo Maas Abraham died on July 3. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a compassionate and caring physician, he was 92.

He was born in Port Gibson, MS, attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School. He completed his residency at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans.

Dr. Abraham served his country during World War II in the Army Medical Corps as a First Lieutenant and received a Bronze Star for meritorious service.

Dr. Abraham came to Baton Rouge in 1950 and began his private medical practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology, retiring after more than forty years. He then worked at the LSU Heath Center. He was a humble, warm, kind-hearted gentleman who took great pride in caring for all of his patients.

Dr. Abraham was a highly regarded member of the Baton Rouge medical community and was one of the Founders of Woman's Hospital. He loved football, especially LSU and Ole Miss games, and enjoyed going to every LSU home game. He loved the outdoors, warm weather, and boating. Fishing was his favorite hobby, even if there was no catch, which was often the case. A longstanding member of Congregation B'Nai Israel,

he was preceeded in death by his parents, Ruth and Laz Abraham, sister, Julia Bombet 1921-2006, and an infant daughter.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Insa, two children and their spouses, Leigh Ann and Don Weinbren and Dr. Eric and Patty Abraham, and three grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Weinbren, and Leo Pipes Abraham.
