LeRoy John Ascheman, son of Henry and Rose (Bach) Ascheman, was born April 15, 1943 in Fairfield Township in Swift County, Minnesota, where he grew up. He was baptized in Hegbert Township at St. Agnes Catholic Church. He began his schooling in Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1961. Following his schooling, Roy enlisted in the United States Army for two years. In 1964, following his honorable discharge, he returned to Appleton, where he worked for his dad hauling gravel. Roy moved to Minneapolis in 1965, where he worked for one year for Home Juice. In 1966, he went to M & D Services driving gravel truck for one year and in 1967 drove gravel truck for Wendell Windstom. On April 19, 1969, he was united in marriage to Connie Bachmeier at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City, South Dakota. The couple remained in Minneapolis, where Roy worked for Mobil, driving transport truck. In July, 1978, they moved to Morris and bought in partnership in the Met Lounge and Diamond Supper Club. From 1980 to 1985, they bought in partnership in the Carpet Store and in Midwest Furniture. Roy and Connie became sole proprietors of the Met Lounge and Diamond Supper Club in 1989. In September, 1996, they bought Kehoe's Bar in Alberta and in October, 1996, they bought the Alberta Cafe, which they completely remodeled. In March, 1997, they opened the Alberta Bar and Grill, which they continued to run since that time.
Roy was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, Knights of Columbus and the Morris American Legion. He liked gardening and planting flowers, farming in the fall with his nephews, Mike and Pat Ascheman and singing and dancing. He enjoyed spending time with his many family and friends, especially his grandchildren and Scott Ascheman and Tim Bachmeier.
Roy died on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 64 years.
He is survived by: his wife: Connie Ascheman of Morris; one daughter: Lorelei (Rob) Dierks of Chokio; one son: Darren Ascheman of Morris; four grandchildren: Brady Riley of Starbuck and Lindsey, Dalton and Parker Dierks of Chokio; eight siblings: Melvin (Margo) Ascheman of Benson, Marge (Merlin) Beyer of Morris, Agnes (Franklin) Miller of Morris, Carol (Virgil) Mesenbrink of Bloomington, Rita (Don) Johnson of Perham, Ronald (Donna) Ascheman of Danvers, Bernice (Dave) Wente of Morris and Robert (Diane) Ascheman of Danvers and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Richard and Harold and sister: Rose Ann and an infant sister.
Pallbearers for the service are: Bob Wallers, Mike Wente, Jerry Lembcke, Ace Sperr, Mike Ascheman, Pat Ascheman, Roger Bakken and Rob Dierks. Honorary pallbearers are Roy's grandchildren: Brady Riley, Lindsey Dierks, Dalton Dierks and Parker Dierks. JoAnne Foley will serve as pianist for the service with Kyle Riley serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
